85th Street Beach
This stretch of sand along Collins Avenue—devoid of the heavy development you’ll find elsewhere along the Miami oceanfront—is a fine place to take a dip (under the watchful gaze of lifeguards).
Crandon Park Beach
This is one of the most happening and developed beaches in the vicinity, set on the northeast shores of Key Biscayne. From the golf course, softball fields, and picnic grills to the illuminating Nature Center, this is a great destination for all-day sand-between-your-toes fun.
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park
On the southern tip of Key Biscayne and completely different in character from Crandon Park, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park presents one of the Miami area’s most celebrated beaches as well as the historical landmark of the Cape Florida Light and nature trails through strand thickets and mangrove swamps.
Virginia Key Beach
This barrier-island beach, easily reachable via the Rickenbacker Causeway, is another good choice if you’re looking to duck at least some of the crowds, and the views of the Miami cityscape across the water are mighty fine.
